Tapit’s Valiance Wins on Debut at Gulfstream

TDN

12th-Gulfstream, $42,800, Msw, 4-13, 3yo, f, 1 1/16mT, 1:42.02, fm.
VALIANCE (f, 3, Tapit–Last Full Measure {GISW, $293,245}, by Empire Maker), let go at 8-1 for this unveiling despite her high-profile connections, hefty price tag and big pedigree, was away in good order from post 12 and pressed the pace from second through opening splits of :24.61 and :49.37. Sticking her nose in front approaching the far turn, the gray extended clear in the lane to win by a length. Favored Dyna Passer (Lemon Drop Kid) beat Call to Victory (Jimmy Creed) to the wire for second but that order was flipped after the stewards determined that Dyna Passer was guilty of interference. The winner’s dam, who typically raced in turf routes and who was MGSP under those circumstances, cut back to upend the 2013 GI Madison S. on the Keeneland Polytrack at 17-1 in her final career start. The daughter of MGISW Lady Slusan (Slewvescent) brought $1.5 million in foal to War Front at the following year’s Keeneland November sale. Last Full Measure has a 2-year-old filly by Medaglia d’Oro, a yearling colt by Exaggerator and a filly foal by Mastery. Sales history: $650,000 Ylg ’17 FTSAUG. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000. Click for the Equibase.com chartor VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
