ARCADIA, CA – Jockey Rafael Bejarano won his fourth stakes, and trainer Simon Callaghan won his first race since June, when Byrama rallied from off the pace to win Saturday’s $76,720 Unzip Me Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.
Byrama ($7.20) rallied from the midpack in the field of 12 to win by a half-length over Charm the Maker. Starry Skies finished third, a length behind Byrama.
Byrama ran about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.53.
Owned by the Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Byrama won her second stakes of the year in the Unzip Me. She won the minor Manhattan Beach Stakes over six furlongs on turf at Betfair Hollywood Park in May.
Byrama was Callaghan’s first winner since June 10.
Bejarano had a big day on Saturday. Teaming with trainer Bob Baffert, he won three Grade 1 races earlier in the day – the Chandelier Stakes on the undefeated Executiveprivilege, the FrontRunner Stakes with Power Broker, and the Awesome Again Stakes with Game On Dude.
