So Cal Fillies Bajan and Charlie Em Invade Keeneland for Major Stakes Races this Weekend
The baby blue and black silks of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners will be proudly displayed by Bajan and Charlie Em (GB) in stakes at Keeneland on Saturday and Sunday. Bajan runs in the $250,000 Lexus Raven Run S. (Grade II) going seven furlongs on Saturday. Charlie Em (GB) will cover one and one-half miles over the grass on Sunday in the $125,000 The Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes.
Following her third place finish in the $400,000 Santa Anita Oaks (Grade I) in April, Bajan was given a well-deserved freshening. She has had a series of solid works leading up to this race. This three-year-old daughter of Speightstown has three wins in eight career starts including a victory in the $75,000 Anoakia S. in October of last year. She then came back and won the $100,000 Moccasin S. in November covering seven furlongs, the same distance as the Raven Run. Bajan’s last six starts have all come in stakes races. Trained by Simon Callaghan, Bajan will be ridden by Joe Bravo and will break from the outside – 13 of 13. Post time is 5:13 EDT.
Charlie Em (GB), a four-year-old daughter of Kheleyf, is a hardy campaigner in that she will be going to the post for the twenty-second time in her career Sunday in the $125,000 The Rood and Riddle Dowager S. at Keeneland. Charlie Em (GB) ran eight times with three wins in Europe before being purchased by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. In her first appearance in the Eclipse silks, Charlie Em (GB) won the $100,000 Senorita S. (Grade III) in May of 2013. Since then, she has run in nine more stakes winning the $75,000 Possibly Perfect H. and finishing third in the Autumn Miss S. (Grade III) and the Torrey Pines S. in California. Charlie Em (GB) thrives in marathon turf races and should relish the one and one-half miles over the grass in the Dowager, the same distance and surface she encountered in the Possibly Perfect. Trained by Paddy Gallagher, Charlie Em (GB) has post position 4 in a full field of 14 and will also be ridden by Joe Bravo. Post time is 4:42 EDT.
