Eclipse Adds Exciting Trio At Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale
Fresh off Warming’s graded stakes triumph on Preakness weekend, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners stayed busy in Maryland this week as the team shifted its focus from the racetrack to the sales ring for the annual Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale on May 18-19 in Timonium, Maryland—the final major juvenile sale of the season.
Over the two days, Eclipse added three new prospects to the stable in another active and productive week for the baby blue and black.
The first addition came on day one when Eclipse secured Hip 235 for $230,000, a talented daughter of Girvin now named Safely.
Although this year’s sale moved to untimed workouts for the first time, Safely (seen above) still turned heads after being privately clocked by TBX with an unofficial :10.42 eighth-mile breeze—one of the service’s five fastest recorded times of the sale.
Safely has already arrived at the Saratoga base of Todd Pletcher and is targeting a summer debut at The Spa.

Eclipse returned to work quickly on day two, striking early for Hip 346 at $220,000. Now named Pavement, the elegant daughter of Quality Road will head to trainer Will Walden in Kentucky.
Quality Road has already proven to be an outstanding sire for Eclipse over the years, responsible for Grade 1 winner Illuminant, Grade 2 winner Paved, and current multiple graded stakes-winning heroine Speed Shopper.
Eclipse closed the sale by landing one final value play in Hip 512, a strongly made son of Maximus Mischief purchased in partnership with breeder Allen Poindexter following the auction.

Now named Detention, the colt was acquired for just $65,000 after strategic bidding and post-sale negotiations allowed Eclipse to secure a 50% interest while maintaining eligibility for Kentucky’s lucrative Maiden Auction Allowance program.
Detention has already arrived at Keeneland, where he joined longtime Eclipse conditioner Wayne Catalano as preparations begin for a summer debut.
“We remain grateful and humbled by the tremendous trust and response from our partners on these three exciting prospects,” said Aron Wellman. “The support behind this group has been outstanding, and we’re excited to get them rolling toward what we hope will be very bright futures.”
