OVERVIEW & VISION

Eclipse is on a mission to continue to enhance our footprint in Europe.  Our recognizable silks have won Group or Listed Stakes in England, France, Ireland and Germany with our crowning achievement thus far being a triumph in the iconic Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

Over the past 3 seasons We have increased our yearling acquisitions with the purpose of keeping the Euro yearlings in Europe to be broken in, developed, raced and, if good enough, showcase at Royal Ascot while keeping open the possibility of exporting the fillies of proper caliber to the United States.

Eclipse acquired 3 yearling fillies this season for the laser-focused purpose of keeping them in Europe.  Although bought in Ireland, this one, a beautifully balanced filly by the star-in-the-making sire, Ghaiyyath, will make her way to England to be conditioned by Italian, Marco Botti.

When a young stallion makes an immediate global impact at a high level with produce from a less than stellar cast of broodmares, that is more often than not a key indicator that said sire is the real thing.  Ghaiyyath is just that.  His initial crop to hit the racetrack, now 3 year-olds, has been nothing short of sensational.  And, his produce are not just excelling in Europe, they are making a splash on American soil, led by Del Mar Derby-hero, The Padre.

In fact, Eclipse privately acquired a 2 year-old daughter of Ghaiyyath who is now in California and has the look of a potential upper echelon competitor, so we are putting our money where our mouth is when it comes to faith in this stallion and this yearling filly heading to Marco Botti is just a another strong vote of confidence.

While 2 of the 3 fillies we acquired this yearling sales season to represent the baby blue and black of Eclipse are designed to be quick, early and precocious, this gal is the 1 who is our stretch candidate.  She’s got speed in her build, but there’s scope to her physique and gait, which bodes well for her to be able to extend her zip beyond sprint distances.

CONFORMATION

Very attractive Leggy filly with a big stride. Both her looks and her pedigree suggest she’s a filly for slightly later in her juvenile season that would lean more towards 7 and 8 furlong races. She has great depth and good balance with a strong hind end giving a lot of push as she walks. I think this filly will change a lot over the coming months and develop into a stronger more athletic type. She is very correct and clean limbed. She has a head of a model and is a real queen amongst her peers. We look forward to her being broken, under saddle and developing through the spring.

EXPERT PEDIGREE ANALYSIS

This filly is by Ghaiyyath who was bred to be something special. By the outstanding sire Dubawi, the sire of 199 group winners, he is out of Galileo’s first classic winner, the Irish 1000gns winner Nightime. A 1,100,000gns purchase as a foal, he is a half brother to Zhukova (by Fastnet Rock) who was the top-rated older filly in Europe and also won the Man O’War S -G1 in the U.S.A.

He more than lived up to his pedigree on the course, winning 2 of his 3 starts at 2 including the Autumn S-G3 at Newmarket. After a setback in the Spring, he was confined to just one run at 3 when he showed smart form, winning the Prix Prince d’Orange-G3 by 3l. He maintained his progress at 4, winning the Prix d’Harcourt-G2 and finishing third to Waldgeist and Study of Man in the Prix Ganay-G1 in the spring. He was then off the course until September when he trounced the field in the Grosser Preis von Baden-G1, Germany’s top race, winning by 15ls; but disappointed in the Arc, where perhaps too much use was made of him.

He returned better than ever at 5, when he was rated the Champion older horse in Europe. After capturing a group win in Dubai, he racked up three impressive wins in the Coronation Cup-G1 (in n.t.r., beating Anthony Van Dyck and Stradivarius), the Eclipse S-G1 (beating Enable) and the Juddmonte International-G1 (beating Magical), before ending his career when finishing second to Magical in the Irish Champion S-G1.

A formidable front runner, at the time of his retirement, he was Dubawi’s top rated performer. Bred on the same cross as Night of Thunder, the current leading sire in G.B and Ireland, he looked destined to be a very good sire too. He proved to be a bit of a slow burner with his first crop last year, but by the end of the year, things were looking a lot rosier, with several promising sorts emerging. This year that momentum has continued. His winners in Europe are headed by the Prix Vanteaux-G3 winner Mandanaba, who was also third in the French 1000Gns-G1, and the dual listed winner Opera Ballo, who was also 2nd in the Joel S-G2; while in America he has sired the progressive Del Mar Derby-G2 winner The Padre. His current juvenile crop has already produced the Prix du Calvados-G2 winner My Highness, who looks potentially a group one performer. In Australia, he has sired the current Listed winner Yum and the group 2 placed winner Romantic Encounter in his first crop of 3yos.

In his first 2 crops, he has sired just one foal bred on the same cross as this filly and that is Zaafir, a current 2yo winner in Japan from just 2 starts. The cross with mares by Tamayuz is an interesting one, as his third dam is the great mare Allegretta, who is also the grandam of Ghaiyyath’s broodmare sire Galileo – leading to inbreeding 5 x 5 to that mare. Ghaiyyath has also sired the Bahrain Tophy-G3 third Nightime Dancer, whose dam is by Galileo’s half brother Sea the Stars – and so he is inbred to Allegretta’s daughter Urban Sea.

This filly’s dam Dubai Rainbow was a dual winner at Dundalk over 7 and 8f. Her only previous foal is the very useful 2024 2yo Royalty Bay (by Kodiac), who won twice over 6f, including at York, before finishing 6th in the Albany S-G3 and 2nd in the Prix Six Perfections-G3 at Deauville, beaten only a short neck. She has been placed this year over 7f.

Dubai Rainbow is a half sister to the very smart and “granite tough” 2yo and sprinter Go Bears Go, who was described by his trainer David Loughnane as being “honest as the day is long”.

Her dam Bahr was a very smart middle distance performer at 3, after winning both her starts at 2 including a listed race at Newbury. A decisive winner of the Ribblesdale S-G2 at Royal Ascot, she was also runner -up in the Oaks-G1 and finished third in the Irish Oaks-G1 and the Flower Bowl H-G1 at Belmont.
Six of her nine foals were winners, headed by the very smart miler Nahrain (by Selkirk), who avenged her dam by winning the Flower Bowl H-G1, as well as the Prix de l’Opera-G1 at Longchamp. She in turn is the dam of the 2024 1000gns -G1 winner Elmalka, by Kingman, and the very talented and tough, multiple international group one winner Benbatl, who is by this filly’s grandsire Dubawi.

Bahr is out of Lady of the Sea, who also bred the Matron S-G3 winner Clerio. She was by the great Mill Reef out of the legendary New Zealand racemare La Mer. Horse of the year in 1975 -76, she won 24 of her 43 starts including the New Zealand Oaks, the Great Northern Oaks and the Air New Zealand S-G1. She was so highly regarded, apparently there was even talk of trying to block her export in Parliament after she was bought by Captain Tim Rogers for his stud in Ireland.

TRAINER & THE PLAN

From his arrival in Newmarket in 2006, Marco Botti quickly established himself as one of Britain’s leading trainers. A reputation for fielding high-class challengers in the world’s biggest races led to Marco being voted international trainer of the year at the 2012 HWPA Derby Awards. He also boasts an admirable strike-rate with his runners at home, where he has been champion all-weather trainer.

International Group and Grade 1 victories with Capla Temptress, Euro Charline, Excelebration, Tac De Boistron, Joshua Tree and Gitano Hernando have been backed up by a strong supporting cast which includes G2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Moohaajim, G2 Rockfel Stakes winner Al Thakhira, and G2 Gran Premio di Milano winner Dylan Mouth.

Jakkalberry and Dandino landed back-to-back runnings of the American St Leger in 2012 and 2013, while Jakkalberry also triumphed in the G2 Dubai City of Gold. The reliable Grendisar counted the G3 Winter Derby among his 10 wins, and he was matched in consistency by the Group performer Planteur, who was third in the 2013 and 2012 Dubai World Cup. Excelebration also gave Marco his first Classic victory when winning the German 2,000 Guineas in 2011, and this was followed by a second victory in the race in 2016 for the Coolmore-owned Knife Edge.

In 2017, the Botti stable again earned more than £1 million in prize-money for owners on a worldwide basis, with winners in Dubai and Canada, including a seventh Group/Grade 1 victory with Capla Temptress in the Natalma Stakes, while Fanciful Angel came agonisingly close to landing another when second in the G1 Arlington Million. In 2018, Aljazzi has built on her previous G3 Atalanta Stakes win before going on to become the stable’s first Royal Ascot winner in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.

Marco was bred to succeed in racing. His father Alduino has been champion trainer in Italy for more than 30 years, while Marco’s brother Stefano is also a leading trainer in Italy. In addition to learning at home with his family, Marco also spent time working for leading trainers Luca Cumani, Ed Dunlop and Saeed Bin Suroor before embarking on his own training career. Marco has now gone on to train over 870 winners and win more than £17.5 million in prize-money.

Marco and Eclipse Founder and President, Aron Wellman, have deep roots dating back to the early 2000’s when the young lads combined to win big races in Europe with Gitano Hernando and then conquer the world together when that charge captured the Grade 1 Goodwood at Santa Anita on American soil.

Marco currently conditions a handful of Eclipse runners in England, all of whom have been expertly handled and have major upside under Marco’s keen horsemanship and shrewd tutelage.
