OVERVIEW & VISION

The yearling sales season is a long process that begins mid summer and extends through the Fall October Yearling Sale at Fasig Tipton that coincides with the changing of the leaves. As the new season ushers in the final yearling sale our team has inspected nearly 3,000+ yearlings over the course of the season.

As the sale season evolves freshman sires with their first crop of yearlings begin to make impressions with their offspring as more of their crop can be inspected. Certain freshman stallions stand out versus others whether instituting confidence in their stock or trepidation as their individuals lack characteristics desired for us to pursue. This is not only why we want to inspect as many yearlings as we do and also keep an open mind to a stallion’s ability to produce runners at the highest levels.

The Fasig October sale can be a catalogue filled with elite yearlings from the Saratoga or early books of the Keeneland September sale that failed to be purchased to young sires that may not have the most designer names to later maturing yearlings. It takes a large amount of pre-sale pedigree work to sift through the over 1,600 yearlings catalogued for the 4 day session sale. Followed by extensively long days, the hips designated by our team spread out over the salesgrounds in 22 different barns at the Fasig Tipton Newtown Paddocks. This process has proven the Eclipse strategy well at this sale having found numerous stakes horses including most recently our multiple Oaks winning Fondly.

CONFORMATION & WALKING VIDEO

Although, registering a May 18th foaling date this daughter of Happy Saver has a natural amount of muscle and strength already even though she is far from a finished product. She has ideal balance and free movement over the ground while oozing class. She has plenty of hip to promote power while complimenting her strong forearm and gaskin.

SEAN TUGEL’S EXPERT PEDIGREE ANALYSIS

Happy Saver started off his career brilliantly 5 for 5 including the Jockey Club Gold Cup Gr. 1 defeating Mystic Guide and Tacitus. In fact he was no worse than 1st or 2nd in 10 of 13 lifetime starts including Grade 1 placings in the Met Mile, Whitney Stakes as well as the Clark Handicap. This was as strong of a resume as any incoming sire of his class competing at the highest level over several campaigns.

Not only does he have the race record but he is supported by having Distorted Humor as his broodmare sire. As much as a sire needs to have the influence on the top side we can say the same for the female family and sirepower. Distorted Humor is making his mark with his sons and daughters specifically having already produced major sires Practical Joke, Constitution and Arrogate with several more young stallions who do not have runners yet.

Airdrie Farm produces graded stakes runners off their fruitful and managed land, being near the top if not leading annually as breeder of stakes winners. Much of these stakes winners are cultivated through generations. Casual Cocktail has already produced the Grade 1 placed Closethegame Sugar amongst her 5 winners from 5 starters. This mating is strengthened through the belief of inbreeding to matriarch broodmares. Happy Saver has two strains himself of Broodmare of the Year Weekend Surprise through AP Indy on his topside as the broodmare sire of Super Saver and then also on his bottomside as his 2nd dam Lassie’s Legacy is a Deputy Minister daughter of Weekend Surprise. Casual Cocktail brings a 3rd strain of Weekend Surprise to the mating with her sire son Honor Grades is her Danzig sireline creating a very rich genetic makeup for our filly.

TRAINER & THE PLAN

Graham Motion is well on his way to earning himself a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Motion is most famous for being the conditioner of Animal Kingdom, who won the 2011 Kentucky Derby while Eclipse President, Aron Wellman, was the Vice President of the colt’s ownership company, Team Valor.

Motion and Wellman developed a phenomenal rapport while Motion trained privately for Team Valor and it was only a matter of time before Motion became one of Eclipse’s go-to trainers.

Motion has delivered the goods for the baby blue and black, saddling numerous Stakes and Graded winners for the stable, highlighted by the All-World filly, Sharing, who captured multiple major races for Eclipse, including the 2019 renewal of the Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

More recently, Eclipse and Motion combined to win the Grade 1, $400,000 Hollywood Derby with Speaking Scout.

In addition to Sharing, Graham trained Shared Account and Main Sequence to victories in Breeders’ Cup Championship events.

Off the track and away from the barn, Graham is a family man to the core, doting over his wife Anita and his children, Jane and Chappy.

Sharing

Graham and Anita are also incredibly philanthropic in and out of the industry, devoting the bulk of their charitable attention towards retired racehorse aftercare organizations, including Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Thoroughbred Charities of America, National Museum of Racing, Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation and The Retired Racehorse Project.

Graham is based year-round at the most magnificent training center in the United States at Fair Hill in Elkton, Maryland where a variety of track surfaces available, including dirt, turf and synthetic and there are vast amenities at his fingertips, while any number of Mid-Atlantic and East Coast tracks are easily accessible.
